Warren Spector Won’t Comment on Which Version of Epic Mickey 2 is Best

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is currently scheduled to arrive on all current platforms for its November 18 release date. That includes Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC – but which version should you choose? When pressed on the matter, game head Warren Spector said, “There’s no chance you’re getting a straight answer to that.”

In light of Mr. Spector’s silence, we decided to do a bit of investigation on our own and threw together a quick overview of the feature sets for each version of the game.

Read on for our findings.

On Wii, Epic Mickey 2 will support the Wii motion and pointer controls present in the original. Obviously, it will not feature HD graphics or account-based achievements, but will support the two-player co-op split screen gameplay with Oswald and Mickey.

On PlayStation 3, Epic Mickey 2 will support both standard controls and enhanced PlayStation Move controls similar to those for the Wii version. It will also feature HD graphics, account-based achievements, and split-screen co-op gameplay.

On Xbox 360, Epic Mickey 2 will support standard controls, HD graphics, account-based achievements, and split-screen co-op.

On Wii U, Epic Mickey 2 will (apparently) support the ability to play the game both using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk (see the update below) and in Off-TV Mode and utilize a dedicated map screen using the Wii U GamePad. It will also feature HD graphics, account-based achievements, and split-screen co-op gameplay. Unique to the Wii U version is the ability to play co-op mode without a split screen using a Wii U GamePad for one of the two players.

UPDATE: Upon closer inspection, it’s pretty obvious that the Wii U version will support Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls. Otherwise how could the game’s official Disney-branded Nunchuk accessories be “Wii U compatible” and “only for use with Epic Mickey 2″? It’s possible that this is referring to Wii U compatibility, but for the Wii version of the game… but wouldn’t that be needlessly confusing for consumers?

Thanks for the comparison. Makes a pretty easy case for Wii U.

I noticed gaffers have been checking out this page and aren’t sure where I got my information about the Wii U features. Everything I listed here came from the fact sheet released during the Wii U Preview event.

I noticed some people who have shared and responded to this page have asked about Wii pointer controls. I’ve retraced all of the press information and realized that there’s not enough information to suggest whether cooperative play will be compatible with Wii Remote pointer controls or just the Wii U Pro Controller. I’ll inquire and hopefully find out for sure.
