Along with the Gamerscore transfer news, another tidbit about the Xbox One was shared in London. To put it simply, the Kinect is required to be connected with the Xbox One in order for it to function properly. This can prove to be difficult for those who keep their Xbox systems within their room and not in a bigger space such as a living room. The Kinect has shown limitations in small spaces, and the Xbox One is said to have the same quality of experience no matter where it is placed.

You can read the full response after the jump.

“Kinect does require to be connected to Xbox One in all cases, yes,” he said. Asked whether the Xbox One will accommodate people who perhaps play in their bedroom rather than their living room, Eagle replied: “Yes, absolutely. We use the living room almost as a moniker – that’s where we assume the best screen is in the house. But if you like to play in any other room in the house, the Xbox One will deliver the same quality of experience whatever the environment.”

According to Wired, it’s strongly suggested that Xbox One will feature mandatory HDD game installs – and these installs will allow players to operate their Xbox One games without a disc. Naturally this leads to the inevitable question: “What happens if someone else tries to install that same game using the same disc?” Theoretically, without some kind of copy-protection, the game could be distributed ad nauseum to just about anyone for free.

Xbox One has a system in place to circumvent this, the report states: game installs are tied to accounts, with a fee for second owners who want to install a game from a disc that has already been claimed.

Here’s what Wired was able to confirm on the matter:

Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.

What does this mean for the traditional used games market? Well, if Xbox One really requires HDD installs, that would mean anyone who wants to buy used had better hope the original owner has somehow scrubbed the game from their account. Otherwise they’re going to have to pay a little extra.

Along with your Gamescore, your Xbox 360 gamertag and avatar will also be ported to the Xbox One. This news comes from the company’s UK marketing director during a screening of the Xbox Reveal event in London today.

It is likely that more features will be ported to the new system, though to what extent is still hazy. Because the system is not backwards compatible, be sure to keep your Xbox 360 around if you want to go back and replay some of your favorites.

According to Spike TV’s Geoff Keighley, Don Mattrick confirmed today that the Xbox One is not ”always on.”

Earlier this year in April, Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth left following this controversy. Well, the argument on whether Xbox One will always have an Internet connection is now over.

While the announcement of the next generation Microsoft console Xbox One might have made fans happy, there was also news that will disappoint many fans as well.

Marc Whitten, the Vice President of Microsoft Xbox Live, revealed to The Verge that the next generation console will not be backwards compatible.

“No, there’s not…the system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn’t really work from that perspective.

This news come as a strong blow to the hopes of some, particularly those with large Xbox 360 libraries. The Xbox One will be using an x86 CPU, which makes it practically impossible for the Xbox 360 games, developed for a Xenon processor and a PowerPC architecture, to work on the new system.

There was even more bad news for 360 fans. While Sony’s PlayStation 4 is having the same issue with the transition, there will eventually be a Cloud service that allows fans to download PlayStation 3 titles and play them on PlayStation 4. Whitten confirmed that there will be no such service offered and nothing is in the works to create a Cloud service to serve that particular function.

Microsoft plans to continue to sell and market the Xbox 360 alongside the Xbox One, and Whitten explained that, “this isn’t about getting rid of the Xbox 360.”

This is the Xbox One controller.

For the most part, it should look familiar to anyone who’s played an Xbox console before. It’s got the Xbox-styled ABXY button configuration, the asymmetrical analog sticks, and it appears to retain its shoulder buttons and triggers.

However, there are a couple changes that are worth noting. Click below to see our quick and dirty initial breakdown.

The first standout difference is the D-pad architecture. Previously, Xbox controllers used a pancake-like D-plate design instead of a “+” style directional configuration. Now it’s more aligned with Nintendo’s own industry-standard D-pad. This could theoretically afford better control for games that are designed for this kind of input scheme.

In place of the usual Start and Select buttons are two new buttons. The one on the left resembles two Windows “tiles,” and looks like it could be used to move between applications quickly. The one on the right displays three parallel bars, which seems an awful lot like it’s connected to some kind of social sharing feature. This kind of imagery traditionally indicates some kind of “write” function.

We’ll know more about the controller soon, so stay tuned for more details.

Microsoft has just wrapped up the official reveal of Xbox One. This press conference focused primarily on innovation and features, while more games are promised at Microsoft’s E3 press conference. While we wait, we’ve got the complete list of every game that’s 100% confirmed for the console after the jump.

Update: More Games To Be Included Throughout The Day

The list of games confirmed for release on Xbox One includes:

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Battlefield 4

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Destiny

FIFA Soccer 14

Forza Motorsport 5

Madden 25

NBA Live 14

Quantum Break

Thief

UFC

Watch_Dogs

This list is pretty small right now, but it should grow substantially when Microsoft takes the stage at E3. Xbox One is slated to have fifteen exclusive titles in its first year, including eight new IPs.
